Arenal Natura


At Arenal Natura Ecological Park you will have the chance to experience the natural world in a whole new way, where colorful frogs, birds, reptiles, and their natural habitats are everywhere.

Located in a beautiful section of the tropical rainforest, at the base of the imposing Arenal Volcano, the park is home to a large number of species of flora and fauna which, with the help of our guides, will give you a new appreciation of this extraordinary piece of nature.

Night Hike

During this activity, you will visit the snake and frog pond and trails to understand the behavior of the species at night.  Terrariums will transform after dark to give you the chance to observe one of the most remarkable and unique shows in the area of La Fortuna.

Crocodile Safari


The Crocodile excursion is a two-hour boat trip during which we will discover the Rio Grande of Tarcoles from a safe and comfortable advantage.

You will have the chance to see splendid ancient reptiles as large as more than four meters.

These amazing creatures have been on the planet for more than two hundred million years. Since they haven’t changed much over time, they are considered living dinosaurs.

You can also see iguanas and basilisks in their natural environment. You will be accompanied by a Capitan and a bilingual guide, both navigation specialists willing to provide all the information about the fauna and flora of the river.

They will assist visitors photographing and filming this wildlife at close range.


The company has nine boats with capacities of 60, 50, 40, 50, 46, 50, 50, 48 and 48 passengers; each is equipped with wheelchair access. 

These boats were designed for navigating under the conditions presented by the river and are secured with civil risk policy with the INS.

The four-stroke engines are equipped with life jackets, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, radio communication systems, speakers and microphones for nature guides.

Itinerary Description

Day 01:

  • 6:00-7:00: Pick-up at main hotels in the San José area.
  • 8:00 :       Stop for a Costa Rican typical breakfast en route
  • 9:00:        Departure to La Pavona in Guapiles (Caño Blanco in Siquirres is an alternate dock in case of weather conditions)
  • 10:30        Arrival in La Pavona. Board the boat for your ride to Tortuguero and your lodge.
  • 12:00-13:00 Arrival at your Lodge. Enjoy lunch at the restaurant.
  • 3:00:        This afternoon is a great opportunity to visit the Village of Tortuguero along with your guide. During this visit you will learn about the local life of the residents of Tortuguero. After the visit and some free time, you will return to the lodge
  • 7:30:        Dinner at the restaurant, located close to the beach entrance.

Day 02:

  • 8:00:         Breakfast at the lodge.  Boat trip
  • 9:30:         Return to the lodge for leisure time
  • 12:30:        Lunch at the restaurant
  • 14:30:        Canal tour to a different canal than the morning tour
  • 19:30        Dinner at the lodge restaurant.

Day 03:

  • 7:30            Breakfast at the lodge.
  • 9:00            Return boat ride to La Pavona in Guapiles.
  • 11:00          Arrival to La Pavona. Board the bus for the return drive to San José.
  • 13:00          Stop for lunch at Grup
  • 13:30          Return drive to San José.
  • 16:00          Arrive in San Jose and drop off at your hotel


  • The order and logistics of the itinerary may change depending on weather conditions.

Marino Ballena National Park


Eco-tourists and wildlife lovers will be amazed with this thrilling whale-watching and dolphin-encounter combo tour.

The Marino Ballena National Park is home to one of the most biologically assorted marine habitats in Costa Rica. 

From watching large pods of  bottle-nose, spotted, common or spinner dolphins doing acrobatics to witnessing a humpback whale instruct its baby to breach, this tour is for every person to enjoy!

Snorkel Whale Island and Punta Uvita (Whale tail) to discover the marine life of Marino Ballena National Park! Later, visit to the enormous natural sea caves of Playa Ventanas as your captain leads you to the caves, giving you an awesome perspective of this must-see place for anyone visiting Uvita Bahia Ballena.

The boat departs from Punta Uvita Beach and you will visit the famous Punta Uvita Whale’s Tail, Ballena Island, Tres Hermanas Islets and Ventana Sea Caves.

Throughout the tour, watch for humpback whales (seasonally) and some different species of resident dolphins.

Other species that are commonly see are pilot whales, Bryde’s whales, false killer whales and other marine animals.

You will also visit the coral and rock reefs to snorkel and see the fantastic wildlife of the Ballena Marine Park.

While cruising in the boat, you can enjoy the beauty of the coastline of Costa Ballena and observe the assortment of shore and pelagic birds nesting and roosting in the Islets of the park.

During the trip your captain will take you to the caverns of Ventanas Beach. where you can see wonderful rocky structures and the amazing caverns.


The humpback whales arrive in the waters of Costa Rica and the Ballena Marine National park from mid-July to late October (for southern humpback whales) , and from mid-December through late March (for northern humpback whales) as they migrate to and from feeding and mating grounds.

The snorkeling is good only during the dry months (late November through April) due to visibility conditions. The bottle-nosed dolphins and Pacific spotted dolphins are frequently seen year-round in the waters of the Ballena Marine Park.


July to October is the best season for whale watching on the pacific coast of Costa Rica. Tours leave daily at 8.30 am from the operation center at Uvita beach, Osa peninsula, Puerto Jimenez or from Drake Bay, depending on your accommodations in the south Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
