At Arenal Natura Ecological Park you will have the chance to experience the natural world in a whole new way, where colorful frogs, birds, reptiles, and their natural habitats will be the main attraction.

Located in a beautiful section of the tropical rainforest, at the base of the imposing Arenal Volcano, home to a large number of species of flora and fauna which, with the help of our guides, will give you a new way to view and enjoy these extraordinary Natural Park.

We invite you to take a couple of hours to discover this magical place, where together we will learn the secrets of the tropical rainforest through diverse activities along the trails of this ecological park.

Night Hike

During this activity we will visit the snake and the frog pond and trails to understand the behavior of the species at night.  Terrariums will transform after the sunset giving us the chance to observe one of the most remarkable and unique shows that can be done in the area of La Fortuna.

Crocodile Safari


The Crocodile excursion lasts about two hours in which we will discover the Rio Grande of Tarcoles, in one comfortable and safe boat.

You will have the chance to see splendid ancient reptiles with sizes of more than 4 meters.

They have been on the planet for more than two hundred million years. Since they haven’t changed much over time, they are considered living dinosaurs. You can also see iguanas and basilisks in their natural environment. You will be accompanied by a Capitan and a bilingual guide, both navigation specialists willing to provide all the information about the fauna and flora of the river. They will assist visitors photographing and filming this wildlife at close range.


The Company has 9 boats with capacities of 60, 50, 40, 50, 46, 50, 50, 48 and 48 passengers, equipped with access for travelers in wheelchairs.

These boats were designed for navigating under the conditions presented by the river. Are secured with civil risk policy with the INS Four-stroke engines are equipped with life jackets, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, radio communication systems, speakers and microphones for nature guides.

Itinerary Description

Day 01:

  • 6:00-7:00: Pick up at main hotels in San José area.
  • 8:00 :       Stop for a Costa Rican typical breakfast on route
  • 9:00:        Departure to La Pavona in Guapiles (Caño Blanco in Siquirres is an alternate dock in case of weather conditions)
  • 10:35        Arrival to La Pavona. Board the boat for your ride to Tortuguero and your Lodge.
  • 12:00-13:00 Arrival to your Lodge. Enjoy lunch at the restaurant.
  • 3:00:        This afternoon is a great opportunity to visit the Village of Tortuguero along with your guide. Through this visit you will learn the local life of the residents of Tortuguero. After the visit and some free time, we will return back to the Lodge
  • 7:30:        Dinner at the restaurant, located close to the Beach entrance.

Day 02:

  • 8:00          Breakfast at the lodge.
  • 9:30          Return to the lodge, time at leisure
  • 12:30        Lunch at the restaurant
  • 14:30        Afternoon canal tour to a different canal than the one visited in the morning boat tour.
  • 19:30        Dinner at the lodge restaurant.

Day 03:

  • 7:30            Breakfast at the lodge.
  • 9:00            Return boat ride to La Pavona in Guapiles.
  • 11:00          Arrival to La Pavona. Board the bus for the return drive to San José.
  • 13:00          Stop for lunch at Grup
  • 13:30          Return drive to San José.
  • 16:00          Arrival time in San Jose and drop off at your hotel

Whale Watching


Eco-tourists and wildlife lovers will be amazed with this thrilling whale watching and dolphin encounter combo tour. The Marino Ballena National Park is home to one of the most biologically assorted marine habitats in Costa Rica.  From watching large pods of  bottle nose, spotted, common or spinner dolphins doing acrobatics to witnessing a humpback whale instruct its baby to breach, this tour is for every person to enjoy!   Snorkel Whale Island and Punta Uvita “Whale tail” to discover the marine life of Marino Ballena National Park! Later, visit to the enormous natural sea caves of Playa Ventanas as your captain cautiously takes approach to the caves, giving you an awesome perspective of this must visit place to everyone visiting Uvita Bahia Ballena.

The Boat departs from Punta Uvita Beach and we will visit the famous Punta Uvita Whale’s Tail, Ballena Island, Tres Hermanas Islets and Ventana Sea Caves. Throughout the tour we look for *Humpback Whales (seasonally) and some different species of resident Dolphins. Others species that are seeing regularly during this are: Pilot whales, Bryde’s Whales, False Killer whales and other marine life.We also visit the coral and rock reefs to snorkel and watch the fantastic marine wildlife of the Ballena Marine Park. While cruising in the boat you can enjoy the lovely beauty of the coastline of Costa Ballena and observe the assortment of shore and pelagic birds nesting and roosting in the Islets of the park. During the trip your captain will take you to the caverns of Ventanas Beach where you can watch wonderful rocky structures and the amazing caverns.


The Humpback whales arrive to the waters of Costa Rica and the Ballena Marine National park between mid-July to October late ( Southern Humpback Whales) , and again in mid-December through late March ( Northern Humpback Whales)  as they migrate to and from feeding and mating grounds. The snorkeling is good only during the dry months (November late through April) due to visibility . The Bottle Nosed Dolphins and Pacific spotted Dolphins are frequently seeing year round in the waters of the Ballena Marine Park.

NOTE * Southern Humpback whales are expected to arrive to Costa Rica in the next weeks of June and July.  July to October is the best season for Whale watching in the pacific coast of Costa Rica.   Tour leave daily at 8.30 am from the operation center at Uvita beach, Osa peninsula, Puerto Jimenez or from Drake Bay depending on your accommodations in the South Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.
